Successful Interviewing
Effective interviewing skills are very important, whether you are looking for temporary, contract, or permanent placements.
Here are some tips for successful interviewing:
| • |
Dress appropriately - you want to make a good first impression, and you want to dress for success, but keep in mind the corporate culture and the environment of the organization you are interviewing with. |
| • |
Do your homework, and conduct research on the organization, so that you can demonstrate your interest in their organization, demonstrate your ability to do research effectively, and so that you can ask pertinent questions - gather information by talking to friends, using the internet, etc. |
| • |
The interviewer is looking for information to substantiate the contents of your resume, and to obtain additional information not captured, such as attitude, inter-personal skills, etc. Be prepared with additional information, and supporting anecdotes. |
| • |
Interviewers are looking for problem-solvers - emphasize situations where you have been involved in solving problems, instead of complaining about past jobs. |
| • |
It is better to be honest and admit that you do not have a particular skill, rather than trying to bluff your way in. |
| • |
Be sure to tell them why you think you are suited for the job, and how you can bring value to their organization - but only if you believe it. |
| • |
Remember to relax, smile, and believe in yourself. Whether this is the right job for you or not, always do your best to impress. |
